Mom Doan's (Famous) Turkey Stuffing

This recipe was introduced to me when my family joined my husband's family for Christmas dinner 19 years ago. This has been the one and only Christmas dinner stuffing for years in the Doan family, introduced to my mother in law by her sister in law Margaret.  This recipe is simple to prepare and can be made ahead.  This can be used with gluten-free bread as well.

Ingredients
for a 23 lb. turkey:
27 slices of white bread, torn into bite size pieces (about 1 1/2 loaves)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 Tb. salt
1 1/2 Tb. sage
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup melted margarine or butter
for a 5 lb. chicken:
7 slices white bread
1/4 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sage
dash pepper
2 tsp. margarine or butter

Tear bread into bite size pieces. Add seasonings, onion and butter, mixing well after each addition.

The stuffing can be used right away or stored in the fridge or freezer until needed.

  1. Hey Laura,
This is the same one I use every year as well. Mom used to swear that it didn't taste the same if the bread wasn't TORN!! :D
