Broccoli and Bacon Soup

I love trying to re-create recipes I have enjoyed in restaurants and this one is a popular soup on the menu at Kelly O'Bryan's. Incidentally, I think I have my mom to thank for the idea of re-creating recipes, as it was something she did when I was a teenager (thanks, mom!).

This soup doesn't really look like much, but it was tasty!
Ingredients:
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1-2 Tb. oil
1 bunch of green onions, chopped (separate the green pieces from the light green/white pieces)
2 carrots, diced
1 large potato, diced
5 cups broccoli, chopped
1 litre chicken stock
2 cups milk
1/4 cup flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
Method:
1. Saute onion and garlic with oil in large saucepan with heavy bottom. Add carrot, the white and light green parts of the green onion and cook until tender.
2. Add potato and chicken stock. Bring to a boil and then simmer until potatoes are tender.
3. Add broccoli and cook until tender.
4. Combine milk and flour and mix using a whisk. Add to soup mixture and stir. Continue to cook until soup boils and/or thickens, stirring frequently.
5. Add cheese, worcestershire sauce, cooked bacon, reserved green onion and salt and pepper. Serve immediately or save for later use.
Enjoy!
When I served this to my family for the first time my husband started singing the Kelly O'Bryan's theme song, indicating to me that he recognized what I had made. The soup got rave reviews.
